Justo en el Clavo
Right on the Nail’s Head
Equinox Gallery is pleased to present Justo en el Clavo, an exhibition featuring new works in sculpture and painting by Artist, Ernesto Ibáñez.
Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, Ibáñez is passionate about creating work that is both ordinary and unusual at the same time. There is always a push and a pull between the materials he uses and the context of the work.
He uses nature as a means of inspiration; animal forms, organic forms in the water, land with trees, and also finds special inspiration in geometry. Straight lines in his work evaluate the apparent rigidity in forms to make them more functional in his abstract narratives. In his creative process, you will find a diverse use of materials as he first determines what to do and then decides what material is appropriate for weight, strength, aesthetics, and durability.
Ernesto Ibáñez has worked with various mediums such as ceramics, cement, wood, metal, fiberglass, and resin. Always aiming to take on new challenges and make full use of different materials, Ibáñez has concentrated his work on a technique that he developed in which the pieces are covered with thousands of nails that simulate fur. This idea emerged from the search to propose something new. He accomplished this by changing the nail’s context, from its original intent into something completely different. Creating a great impact between the spectator and the work.
Exhibition on view until January 24th.
